June 2006 The newest poker league to hit town has actually been here a while. The biggest thing to come out of Siler City since Aunt Bee, Bill Lunsford started the World BTR (Bar Tavern Restaurant) Tour a little over a year ago. What's unique about his league, says Lunsford, "is that we give more to players and bars. In the finals, for example, we have championships in each state rather than just one. That makes it easier for players to be able to travel." He also works to make alliances that don't cost players money or set up accounts. With his association with GIFortune.net, players do not have to establish a money account to play freerolls. Bill is no stranger to poker, playing about 20 years. He describes himself as "an everyday guy, playing with friends and in the occasional backwoods smoky poker shack. He loves helping people get invaluable practice in his leagues. "Every time you swing the bat, you are practicing," says Lunsford, and World BTR offers players a variety of places to play without any wagering. With 43 bars, restaurants, and taverns across NC and Virginia, there's certainly no lack of opportunity. Expansion plans call for new locations in CT. For those just starting out, Bill offers some good advice: 1. In free poker, you had better play tight. You can be called on anything, so have a good hand. 2. Don't make too-large bets pre-flop. Once again, without awesome cards, you can be called on anything, so have a good hand. 3. Once you build a reputation for playing tight you can loosen up a bit. 4. Don't chase a bad hand with good chips. Learn to let hands go. Click the logo below to get to Bill's site. |
