May 2006 Rob Verzera is clearly having a good time. The software CEO, after creating then selling a successful company called RegSoft, started Raleigh Poker Tables two years ago. He's also a poker player, getting in 2-3 games a week. With an incredibly well-equipped woodworking shop south of Raleigh, Rob has sold about two dozen custom poker tables so far. His biggest project? An "extremely expensive" custom job for a customer in Washington State. He would not disclose the cost but did reveal the shipping alone was $800. Now he's expanding beyond custom projects to entry-level tables everyone can afford, plus chip drawers, drink/food stands, and other accessories. Rob is also a grilling enthusiast and author of many software programs, including his biggest shareware hit, My Function Keys. I visited Rob's unreal woodworking shop.
The building is as big as any house. The first floor is the
building and assembly area. Multiple venting systems take out dust
from each machine station. The second floor is a totally cool guy
enclave. Big screen tv, bar, poker table, the works. I
learned a lot about poker tables during the visit. The
"racetrack", for example, is the area between the felt and the rail.
Most low-end tables omit the racetrack but go to a high-limit area in
any casino and you will see them. Look at the picture below -- the
wood area (birch, actually) , is the racetrack. If you're considering replacing that old tabletop piece of crap you got at Walmart, this is definitely the guy to call. Reach Rob at Raleigh Poker Tables * (919) 656-1796. |
