June 2006 Not only does this lady play poker, she teaches it as well. Sharon Hill, the author of "The Wild Woman's Guide to Texas Hold'em Poker," visited with TPJ recently to speak about her book and her business, Speaking of Poker. Sharon is a small-stakes player and has played for years. She typically plays $30-100 tournaments on her many visits to Las Vegas. Having spent a great deal of time at Binions, among others, she started Speaking of Poker to teach women how to play. She loves to teach the game to beginners and sets up parties, conference events, and other sessions around the country. Here's some of her advice: 1. Start with tournaments where the investment is fixed and you can't lose more than you buy in for. 2. Don't play every hand. She recommends playing no more than two hands per 30 minutes in a cash game, for example. 3. If you are in an unlucky seat, move! 4. If you are losing or otherwise having a bad day, change seats, change casinos, or just stop. Otherwise, you'll be saying bye bye to your money. Contact Sharon at www.speakingofpoker.com. |
